I have one of these, a Johnny Lightning ‘77 Dodge Monaco. A lot of JL diecasts appear to be chosen from the random “WHAT THE HELL, MAN?” sort of weird boring car bin.

Hey, don’t be so quick to knock the ‘81 X-11. It was a pretty good car for the time. Just that one specific year before it went to fuel injection. Sporty suspension, high-output V6. It wasn’t a jet, nor was it well constructed, but it was fun.

This is what was so awesome about JL. They just went ahead and made cars that other diecast companies would never think about doing. This resulted in a lot of cool jalop cars you would never find anywhere, but also a few “what were they thinking?” moments, as we see here.

Given that there’s no way anybody else is offering the car companies money for a Citation or a Monaco, the rights probably cost about tree-fiddy.

I’d buy it just to shoot it from a potato cannon into a solid wall. Repeatedly. Possibly with malice.

Well, it’ll just continue being my little secret then.
